Obituary

Alan W. Fullington77, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH following a brief illness.

He was born June 22, 1940 in Hanover, NH the son of Wilson and Clarice (Aldrich) Fullington.

In 1958 he graduated from Hanover High School where he excelled in track and football. He was a player in the 1958 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl game which was the first year it was played in Hanover. He carried the experience of visiting the Shriner's Hospital with him his whole life. In 2008 he marched in the parade on the 50th year anniversary.

Al worked on the family dairy farm until 1966 and then served in the United States Army from 1966-1968. He had been stationed in Furth, Germany. Following his discharge, he worked for RS Audley Construction Company from 1968 to 1971 when he started for the Town of Hanover Highway Department. He retired in 2001.

Alan had a close relationship with the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover where he assisted in funerals and services when asked.

Alan was dedicated to hard work and began working for L&M Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of American Legion Post #80 of Lyme, NH, a former member of the Hanover Volunteer Fire Department, a Maple Sugar Bowl alumni and a volunteer for the Hanover Center Fair for 30 years.

Alan has two great loves, his family and the land and wildlife which was a legacy from his parents. Alan's most joyful times were spent with his girls and grandchildren, teaching them about the land and gifts it provides. Alan was an avid hunter and passed the love of hunting on to his children and grandchildren and his many lifelong friends.

In 1970, Alan was married to Ellen Cloud.

He was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Marion Souza and Mary West, brother in laws, Ed Souza, Kenneth Noyes, Roger Melendy and Frank Wallace.

He is survived by his wife Ellen of Hanover, NH; daughters, Victoria Prentiss (Lance) of Canaan, NH, and Amy Barnes (Shane) of Enfield, NH; grandchildren, Alex Alan and Jenna Howe, step-granddaughter, Morgan Prentiss and grandson, Hayden Alan Barnes. Sister, Dorothy Wallace of Vero Beach, Florida, brother, Stanley Fullington (Sally) of Seattle, WA and brother James Fullington of Thetford, VT, sister-in-law, Cynthia Caravas (Jerry) of Virginia Beach, brother-in-law Chuck Currier of Florida as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.

Alan treasured his many friends through the years and lived in Hanover all 77 years of his life and shared so many wonderful times.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home on School Street in Hanover, NH. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 7th at 1:00 PM in the First Congregational Church of Hanover in Hanover Center. A reception will follow in the church.
