Obituary

Alice M. Morgandied peacefully on Thursday, January 4th. She was born on November 7th, 1917 in Wanamie, a small coal mining town in NE Pennsylvania. Alice was the youngest of 5 surviving children of Walter and Alice Morgan. She trained as a nurse at Wilkes Barre General Hospital, and worked as a supervisor through WWII.

Alice married George James Morgan on her birthday in 1942, three days before he left for the South Pacific as a Dentist with the 6th Marine Division. On his return they moved to Scranton, PA and set up a private dental practice in their home in Green Ridge and ran it together for nearly 45 years.

A faithful member of the Asbury Methodist church, Alice sang in the choir and worked for many volunteer service organizations. She loved to play the piano, was an avid bridge player and consummate knitter, making hundreds of her signature Christmas stockings. Alice and George moved to the Upper Valley in 2005 and, after her husband died in 2006, she lived with her only child, Jim and his wife Sharon in Etna, NH.

She was a dominant spirit in our family. After the age of 88 she went hot air ballooning in Post Mills, flew copilot in a small plane, rode on a Ducati motorcycle and in a rebuilt Jeep Scrambler.

Most importantly, she was beloved as "Ganny" by her three granddaughters, Amy McLaughlin, Emily Doe and Gretchen Morgan of Exeter and Portsmouth, their spouses Ben, Aaron, and Tim, her six great grandchildren: Wyatt and Morgan McLaughlin, Carter and Nelson Doe and Alice and James McLaughlin, and Sharon's son Christopher Van Brunt, and her daughter Jessica Van Brunt.

Frequent family gatherings were her joy. In the last days of her life she was lovingly cared for by the staff at Wheelock Terrace and Bayada Hospice, who became a second family to her.

In the Spring, a family memorial service will take place in Scranton, PA.

Any remembrance can be sent as a donation to the Asbury Methodist Church, 72 Delaware Street, Scranton, PA 18509.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
