Obituary

Ann Dewey Kent, formerly of Andover, MA and later a resident of Kendal at Hanover (NH) since December 2003, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022.

Ann was born on February 2, 1926, the youngest child of Bradley and Marguerite Dewey of Cambridge, MA and New London, NH. Ann grew up in Cambridge where she attended the Shady Hill School and Winsor School. She attended Vassar College, graduating in 1946 with a degree in Chemistry in just three wartime years of college. Ann married S. Leonard Kent III of Bryn Mawr, PA, on October 1, 1949, in Cambridge, MA.

Ann and Leonard lived in Andover, MA, for 30 years, raising and educating their four children. Together, they supported the founding of an Andover branch for "A Better Chance." Ann also served on the Ladies' Committee at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and did volunteer work for the early days of the hospice care movement. Ann was particularly appreciated for the warm welcome she provided and dinners she served to boarding students who were relatives or friends of her children at Phillips and Abbot Academies.

Leonard and Ann moved to Brigham Hill Rd in Norwich, VT, in 1988 then on to Hanover, NH, in 1997. Winters included trips to ski in Avon, CO and summers were spent in the Adirondacks. They also loved traveling in the US and Europe. Ann always had a project of some kind: knitting, gardening, refinishing and particularly tray painting. She and her friends met regularly for birthday groups and painting sessions. For many years at Kendal, Ann was involved in organizing bus trips to two favorite places in Boston – Symphony Hall for BSO concerts and the Museum of Fine Arts for special exhibitions.

Ann is survived by her children – Dan of Seattle, WA, Elizabeth of Watertown, MA and Margot of Edwards, CO. Her four grandchildren, Alex of Mankato, MN, Molly of Seattle, WA and Carter and Mackenzie of Denver, CO were very dear to her. She also delighted in the presence of her many nieces and nephews. Ann was predeceased by her husband in 2008 and her son, Brad Kent, in 1978.

A private burial is planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kendal at Hanover, 67 Cummings Road, Hanover, NH 03755 with 'In memory of Ann Kent' in the memo line. Your gifts will be directed to support staff continuing education in accordance with Ann's wishes.

To her core, Ann was a caregiver of extraordinary kindness. We are blessed to have had her in all our lives.
