Barbara H. Albaughpassed away on October 14, 2011, in the 92nd year of her life. She was a proud native of Swiftwater, NH, but moved to Hanover before World War II, and worked for a time as a waitress at the Hanover Inn. It had long been a source of pride for her to recall that she had often waited on poet Robert Frost, who was her favorite guest.
She later established and operated an antique shop at her home on Lyme Road, which provided an outlet for her great interest in historical objects. Her passion for antiques and enthusiasm for collecting inspired other members of her family in the choice and furnishing of their homes.
Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Dan and Bertha Hunt of Swiftwater, and four siblings; her first husband, Raymond Sullivan; her second husband, Harry Albaugh, who worked for many years as an electrician in Hanover; and a grandson, Sean Kley of Harpswell, Maine.
Barbara is survived by a son, Dennis Albaugh, and his wife Cathy, of Meredith, NH; a daughter, Linda Kley, and her husband Ron of East Winthrop, ME; and three grandchildren, Nathan Kley of Port Jefferson, NY, and his partner Andrea Ward; Matthew Albaugh and his wife Leeann, and Keegan Albaugh and his partner, Stephanie Atwood, all of the Burlington, VT area.
Family members will cherish many fond memories of Barbara's warmth, humor, and generosity, which extended far beyond the bounds of her immediate family. Many "Barb," "Mom" and "Nana" stories will be told with more laughter than tears for years to come.
Her family would like to extend thanks to the staff and residents at The Greens in Hanover, who went out of their way to make Barbara's last years as pleasant as possible; to the medical personnel of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center who treated her on numerous occasions; and to the staff at the Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith, NH, who so compassionately provided for Barbara during her final days.
Sincere gratitude is also extended to her long and dear friend Joyce Hinsley, who supported and advocated for her; and especially to Wendy LeDuc, who was such a kind and faithful caregiver to Barbara during her final years.
In accordance with Barbara's wishes, no funeral service or visiting hours are planned. Following cremation, she will be interred alongside her husband, Harry, in Hanover.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
