Barrie Landauer Estesa lifetime summer resident of Hanover, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Harvest Hill in Lebanon. She was born in New York City on April 17, 1935, a daughter of Ruth Yarbrough and James Dittman Landauer and attended school in Scarsdale, NY. She graduated from the Madeira School in 1952 and Vassar College in 1956.
An extremely talented dancer, choreographer, director and teacher, she earned a Certificate of Dance from the Mary Wigman Studio, Berlin, Germany, and a CMA from the Laban Institute of Movement Arts. She has been on faculty at HB Studio in NYC since 1963 and has additionally taught or choreographed dance, movement, and tai chi at the 92nd Street Y and the Lee Strasberg Institute at NYU, among others.
Earlier acting performances include "Gypsy," "By Jupiter" and "A Funny Thing Happened." She retired in 2012 and moved to Hanover.
Greatly admired and dearly loved by her survivors: her sister, Barbara L. Widdoes and nephew, William P. Widdoes, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA, her niece and nephew, Bennett W. Crocker and James L. Widdoes, and his wife, Brooks, of Los Angeles, and her husband, William L. Estes, of Pocono Lake, PA, in addition to 5 great-nieces and nephews, Charlie, Sam, Maggie, Reed and Molly.
A memorial reception will be held on Tuesday, May 21, at The National Arts Club, 15 Gramercy Park South, NYC, at 12 noon. RSVP [email protected]. Burial at Pine Knolls Cemetery will occur at a later date.
