Charles "Charlie"
Eugene Garipay, Sr.
January 30, 2020
Charles "Charlie" Eugene Garipay, Sr.passed away unexpectedly January 30th, 2020 at home at the age of 84 with his loving wife Joan at his side.
Charlie, as we all knew him, was born April 4th, 1935 in Hanover, New Hampshire where he currently resided, to L. Earle and Helene Garipay. Middle brother to Lewis and Danny (Thommy). He is survived by his wife of 65 years Joan, his four children Chuck (Jill), Pam (Bob), Kathy (Mike), and Karen (Eduardo), his 7 grandchildren Geoff, Ryan (Hannah), Bryce, Christopher, Antonio, Michael, Lauren, and his brother Danny plus many more cherished family members and dear friends.
Charlie loved Hanover. He loved to tell the history of Hanover and the funny stories of growing up in Hanover. For over 30 years he delivered mail to the residents of Hanover. Charlie gave his time and skills to Hanover, volunteering as a fireman, +50 years overseeing town elections, as town clerk, as a member of the Hanover Improvement Society, the Goose Pond Lake Association or to his many friends.
He was an avid member of the "Over the Hill" ski group and well-traveled, for the past +30 years Charlie loved spending summers at their cottage on Goose Pond sharing experiences with family and friends. He freely gave his love and time to all, as he always made you feel a part of his family. He was never at a shortage of hugs and was a continual presence in our lives.
Yes, Charlie will always be remembered as a gregarious giver on many levels, and most frequently, he was a giver of his two cents. He was a reliable resource to all who knew him, someone whose opinion was valued second to none.
Finally, while Charlie possessed a wealth of life skills, none of which were useful in the kitchen. But what he had lacked as a cook, he made up for in life lessons and knowledge, the foundation of which started as a child working on the Garipay family's Golfside Farm and time in the Army, he often said "as long as it has wheels and an engine he was proficient in it", and that he was. He was a "hands on" type of teacher and was always at your side (just to make sure things were done "Charlie's Way")
Visitation will be Wednesday Feb. 26th, 6–8 at Rand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hanover. A brief private service will be held at Rand-Wilson on Thursday 2/27 at 11am with burial to follow at Pine Knoll for immediate family and friends.
A "Celebration of Life" will be scheduled at a later date so that all extended family & friends can get together to do what he was so good at, talking and sharing stories.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made in his name to either the Goose Pond Lake Association (GPLA), or to the Hanover Improvement Society.
