Charlotte Ellen Lyman Gile Petersknown to her many friends as Sal, died peacefully after a brief illness on January 31, 2011, at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast. Fla. She was 83 and was stricken at her vacation residence in Palm Coast.
Sal was born on Aug. 8, 1927 in Hanover, N.H., the daughter of Dewey and Lois Lyman, and grew up on the family farm in Jericho, Vt. She graduated from Hartford (Vt.) High School and worked briefly in New York City before working for many years at Dartmouth Travel in Hanover.
She married John F. (Jack) Gile, Jr., in 1950. Jack died after a long illness in 1978 and she married Seaver Peters later that year.
Sal was an avid golfer, reader and fan of Dartmouth sports, especially football and hockey. She is a past president of the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Seaver Peters, of Wilder; her children with Jack Gile: Susan Gile Daniels and husband Charles of Nashville, Tenn., and Dewey Gile and wife Stacy of Arundel, Me.; four stepchildren: Wendy and husband Jeffrey Farnsworth of Enfield, N.H., Gail and husband Robert Trottier of West Lebanon, N.H., Scott and Amy Peters of Hanover, and Michael and Marisa Peters of Stratham, N.H. Also surviving are seven step-grandchildren: Robert and Daniel Trottier; Ryan, Eric and Nicole Farnsworth; Benjamin and Thomas Peters, and Angela Peters.
Sal is also survived by her sister, Betsy Lyman Sommers of Washington, Mo., and her brother, Harris Lyman, of Wilder. She was predeceased by two brothers, Norman Lyman and Phillip (Bud) Lyman, and a sister, Anne Lyman Kierkiewski.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, at 1 p.m., at Rollins Chapel at Dartmouth College, Hanover. A reception will follow immediately at the Hanover Inn.
