Clinton "Clint"
A. Bean
February 11, 2022
Clinton "Clint" A. Bean, 77, died surrounded by his family at his home in Grantham, NH on February 11, 2022.
Born in Burlington, VT on November 23, 1944 to Linwood H. and Alice (Reynolds) Bean, Clint's family moved to Hanover, NH where he graduated from Hanover High School in 1962. He enjoyed multiple sports and played on the football, basketball and baseball teams. He spent a post graduate year at Kimball Union Academy and went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire in 1967 where he was a member of the golf team, the SAE fraternity and ROTC. Following UNH Clint became a commissioned officer in the Air Force and was stationed at England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana from 1967-1971. He was promoted to Captain before receiving an honorable discharge and returning to Norwich, VT and later Hanover, NH with his family and becoming co-owner of Webster Associates Inc. Realtors from 1971-1990. Clint later served as the Executive Director of the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce from 1990 until 2006.
Always an active member of the community throughout his life, Clint enjoyed volunteering at the VA Medical Center in White River Jct., VT; was appointed/volunteered for a variety of community & municipal task forces and committees; was a member of the Board of Directors for West Central Behavioral Health (WCBH); he was a member of the Hanover Rotary Club for over 42 years and past President; past founding Co-Chair of the NH-VT Multiple Listings Services (formerly UV Service); past President of the Hanover-Lebanon Board of Realtors; past member of the CHaD Advisory Board; a Governor appointed member of the NH Division of Travel & Tourism; and a mentor for the Lebanon chapter of SCORE. Clint was honored to be recognized for his years of service and accomplishments as a community leader in the Upper Valley and for the significant growth of the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce with a sitting bench and plaque dedicated to him in 2007. Clint's bench sits at the corner of Main and Allen Streets in Hanover.
Twenty-five years ago Clint relocated to Eastman in Grantham, NH where he would meet his wife, Debra Bolmer Bean, a surgical nurse at DHMC. They have spent the last 15 years by each other's side. Among his greatest sources of happiness was keeping up with his children and his grandchildren whose lives he followed closely. Clint's friends, both lifelong and more recent, his family and beloved dog and constant companion, Jake, enriched his life with conversation, laughter, joy, travel, adventure and love and made his life full. A Crystal Lake cottage in Enfield was an early family favorite gathering spot. More recently, Clint looked forward to winter visits to Venice, Florida and time in Maine over the summer with Debra. Near and far visits and recent daily calls with lifelong friend Dana Robes and his wife Martha, a cross country car trip with close friend Mike Downes and his wife Chandra and Dartmouth football seats he shared with Tom Byrne were just a few special memories. Friendships forged in Hanover, at UNH and in the Eastman community were cherished. We are thankful for the friendship and support of Peter Gardiner, Charlie and Diane Cameron, Carl and Lisa Williams, Don and Peg Roberts, Bonnie Gordon and Dr. Bob and the Eastman community.
Clint is survived by his wife Debra Bolmer Bean and their dog Jake, his daughter Deborah C. Bean, DVM (Ben Starr) and grandchildren Rachel and Matthew Starr of Boston, MA; a son Jeffrey C. Bean (partner Amanda Ralph) of Hartland, VT; stepchildren Ryan E. Bolmer (partner Dana) of Newtown, CT; Rachael Meade (Branden) and her son Alex of New Milford, CT; brothers Linwood (Skip) H. Bean Jr. (Pam) of Lebanon, NH and Frank R. Bean (fiancé Pat) of Groton, CT; his former wife Nancy M. Bean of Wilder, VT; former sister-in-law and very close friend Sally Blanchard of Manchester, ME; mother-in-law Dorothy Bittorf of Danbury, CT and sister-in-law Diane Passander (John) of Danbury, CT as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank the VA and their doctors, nurses and staff in Boston, Pittsburgh and especially White River Junction, VT. They extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Chris Nice and Kristin Ray, Nurse Practitioner from the VA Medical Center in White River Junction, to the transplant team in Pittsburgh and to the staff at Bayada Hospice for the exceptional care provided to Clint. Additionally, they are thankful for care received at DHMC and the Norris Cotton Cancer Center.
A memorial service will be held on April 30, 2022 at 11am at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St Jude Children's Research Center.
