Crawford L. ("Bud") Elder, Jr.D '45, T '46 - died Sunday, June 1st, 2014, at his Woodlands home while holding the hand of his wife, Alberta.
Bud was born June 8th, 1924, to Crawford L. and Harriet (Larson) Elder in Evanston, IL. He graduated from Evanston Township High School with a most interesting group of classmates. He proceeded to Dartmouth in the fall of 1941. After Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, he enlisted in the Navy who later transferred him from the Tuck School to the Harvard Business School to become a Supply Office in the Seabees, serving on Peleliu and Eniwetok in Guam.
After the war, Bud married Constance Bradford. They had one son, Crawford L. (Tim) Elder, III.
A career in publishing/advertising sales was first with US News and World Report in Chicago, St. Louis and San Francisco. Following retirement from USN & WR, Bud had a second career involving his lifelong love of sports with Touchdown Publishing / Pro-Sports Publications in San Francisco. His sales covered areas from Hawaii to Texas and Chicago.
In December, 1971, Bud married Alberta Marie Ternes in Tiburon, CA. Special interest in places and people fostered a love of travel, starting with their honeymoon in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. North America, Caribbean, Central America, Mexico and Europe were all to be explored.
Bud was a member of The Round-Up Riders of the Rockies (3R's) out of Denver, CO with whom he rode for 18 years. The friendships shared on their "Big Ride" every July were treasured memories. Bud was a Pioneer at the time of this death. After moving to Hanover, NH, Bud was a member of the University Chorus of the Upper Valley that was being formed by George Barr.
Bud is survived by his wife of 43 years, Alberta; his son, Crawford L. (Tim) Elder, III, and his wife, Carol, Mansfield Center, CT; his grandsons, Bradford, Washington DC and Jarred, Cambridge, MA; his sister, Barbara Henry and his niece, Susan Jones of Baton Rouge, LA.
Services will be held Saturday, June 7th, at 11:00 AM, at Saint Denis Catholic Church in Hanover, NH. Interment will follow at the Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover with a reception to follow at The Woodlands in Lebanon, NH.
