Obituary

Edna May (Perkins) Pierceof Hanover, passed away on Wednesday, February 14th, 2018 at the Hanover Terrace Health Center after a battle against multiple cancers.

She was born in Weymouth, England on September 22nd, 1924, the daughter of Alfred and Hilda Perkins. Taking a giant leap of faith, Edna left her home country on the 4th of July 1946, and enjoyed the 9-day sail on the Argentina, arriving in New York on July 12th. Who would have thought that this young English woman, a former member of the British Women's Land Army, would then grace the Town of Hanover for over 70 years?

The war bride of Philip Pierce of Enfield, NH, she was active in many endeavors, touching the lives of countless friends and associates. She was a Lab secretary at Mary Hitchcock Hospital, a substitute teacher, Sunday school teacher at St. Thomas, a Welcome Wagon hostess for 10 Years, a saleswoman for Church's Children's Clothes, a longtime Sales Associate at Campion's in Hanover, a Volunteer at DHMC's Pink Smock gift shop and Board Member Emeritus for the NCCT. She enjoyed music tremendously, learning to play the piano 'by ear,' performing for many years in the choir at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and appearing as an actress in several NCCT musical productions.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Philip, her sisters Dorothy and Vera, and her grandson Matthew Perry.

She is survived by her children Carol of Yuma, AZ, Philip of New Carlisle, OH, his wife Lori and their two children Sarah and Seth, and Edna's youngest daughter Mary of Hartford, VT.

A Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 2nd at 3:00 pm at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hanover, followed by a party in the Parish hall honoring Edna and celebrating her incredible life. All are welcome for food, drink and the sharing of "Queen Edna" stories.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any of the organizations that have graced and supported Edna through her life; St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Visiting Nurse and Hospice for VT and NH, Hanover Terrace Health and Rehab Center, or a charity of your choice. Edna would appreciate it immensely.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
