Eleanor Diane
Rose Glover Lafond
November 4, 2013
Eleanor Diane Rose Glover Lafond87, of Norwich died peacefully at her home, on Monday, November 4th, 2013. She was surrounded by her sons and daughter as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "۬"۬
She was born to the late Joseph Benson Rose II and Eleanor Connely Rose on February 21, 1926, on Brioni Island, in the Adriatic Sea. She spent her early childhood in France, returned to America in 1934 on board the SS Manhattan and divided her time between Charleston, SC and New York City, spending summers in Oyster Bay, Long Island. Diane attended Miss Porter's School in Farmington, CT, where she made many life long friends.
In 1946 Diane married Paul W. Glover and moved to Bath, NH where she lived her dream of raising her children in an old house in the country. Though they maintained roots in Bath and continued to spend summers there, the family eventually moved to Hanover, NH. "۬
Diane was an active member of the Epiphany Episcopal Church of Lisbon, NH and St Thomas Episcopal Church in Hanover, NH. Her first and greatest love was for her four children. A devoted mother, she supported and nurtured each child as they grew into adulthood and started their own families. "Mum", as she was called by her children, amazed all with her endless energy. She painted portraits, tied flies, knit Christmas stockings for the newest member of the family, loved her dogs and made every day a celebration with her marvelous joie de vivre. She instilled in her children the value of optimism, resourcefulness and elegance. "۬
Diane is survived by Paul W. Glover III and Marilyn Glover of West Hartford, CT, Gwendolyn Glover Thompson of Norwich, VT, John Blandin Glover, Sr. and Kendra Glover of Franconia, NH and Andrew Hutchins Glover and Lucie Glover of Austin, TX, twelve grandchildren, John Glover, Jr., Cecelia Glover, Paul Glover, Abigail Glover, Chloe Glover, Christian Glover, Nicholas Glover, Todd Thompson, Nelle Thompson, and Hope Thompson and ten great-grandchildren."۬"۬
A service will be held at 1pm Saturday November 16, 2013, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hanover, NH. A private burial will be held at Tokhe Pine Knoll Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Epiphany Episcopal Church, Lisbon, NH. Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
