Beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Ella Nadine Anderson Erway, resident of Kendal at Hanover, died peacefully on Monday, December 6th with family members by her side. Born in Dover, New Jersey in 1926, she was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Milton K. Erway and her son, Stephen. She is survived by three children, Rio de la Vista, Janet Sue Moffet, and Nirmala Daniel Erway, two grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Ella graduated from Dover High School, studied speech at Wheaton College (Illinois) and earned her Master's Degree and Doctor of Education from Teachers College of Columbia University.
Over her 41-year career in higher education, Ella taught at Northwestern College, Whitworth College, Lehman College, Hunter College, Ithaca College, Teachers College of Columbia University and Southern Connecticut State University, where she also served as Dean of the Graduate School and the School of Education.
After retiring to Vermont, she and Milt travelled the world, from Europe and Russia to China, South America, and across the United States. They enjoyed exploring New England for their shared business, Dover Antiques.
After Milt's death, Ella moved to Kendal at Hanover where she was active in many roles, as the Chair of New Hampshire United Developmental Services and on the Boards of Pathways, the Institute of Learning at Dartmouth, Deacons at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College, and numerous committees at Kendal, including the Board of Directors. In 2009, Ella was honored as Trustee of the Year by Aging Services of Maine and Vermont.
Ella's lifelong achievements and many contributions to education, her community, and her family are an inspiration, and will continue to live long into the future.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cadbury Fund at Kendal at Hanover.
