Eugene Bronstein92 years old, of Boston, MA and New London, NH died peacefully in his sleep on March 5, 2017. Services celebrating his life were held on Tuesday, March 7th at the Upper Valley Jewish Community Center, Hanover, NH.

Gene was born in Cambridge, MA. He graduated from Boston English High School. After spending his freshman year at Boston University, in 1943 he enlisted in the Navy V12 program at Dartmouth College. He served as an Ensign in the South Pacific on an APA Transport, taking part in Okinawa, Iwo Jima and other crucial battles.

At the end of the war he returned to Dartmouth College to complete his BA degree in 1946. He graduated Harvard Business School in 1948 with an MBA.

Gene was a gifted retailer, teacher and mentor. He worked in Filene's department store in Boston from 1955 to 1975, starting as a research assistant and working his way up to a Merchandising Vice President. This role tapped into his ability to lead and motivate people at every level of the company. One colleague described Gene as "the best people person I have ever seen in business."

In 1975 his second career began at Boston College, Carroll School of Management where he taught retailing, marketing, merchandising, and management courses to undergraduate and MBA students. He was widely regarded as a charismatic professor who engaged and challenged his students. In 1983 he became Director of the School of Management Honors Program teaching and mentoring 125 top academic students. When Gene left the honors program in 1992 one of his students wrote, "You have influenced my life and my career more than you will ever know. I have the deepest respect for you."

Gene leaves behind his beloved wife, Fay of 69 years and his beloved sons, Jeffrey, David, Fred and wife Liz and grandson Max. They will sorely miss him.
