Fletcher "Terry" Cooper
The family of Fletcher "Terry" Cooper is deeply saddened by his passing on May 31, 2019. Terry was born in 1927 in Trenton, New Jersey to Bennett and Emily Cooper.
He graduated from The Pennington School, enlisted in the US Navy and later earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degree in education from Western Michigan University.
Terry's early career was spent in education on the main line of Philadelphia- teaching history and coaching baseball, basketball and tennis at Girard College, Friends Central and The Haverford School where he was inducted into the athletic hall of fame in 2014.
While at Haverford, Terry was introduced to Mary Clare McGlynn (Golla). They married and he inherited 4 beloved children Daniel (Chris), Matthew (Michelle) Mary Beth Mayhew (Randall), and Bruce. Together, they had a daughter, Sarah Cooper Wilde (Richard).
He loved his family and found great joy in his 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren who range in age from 1-33. He had a memory "like a rolodex", was passionate about Russian history, arctic exploration and sports, was a fantastic piano player and loved a competitive game of ping pong.
Terry's time in education allowed him to spend summers at camps in the Adirondacks and later, 33 years as the Tennis Director at Camp Tecumseh on Lake Winnipesaukee in Center Harbor, NH where he was a coach, a mentor and a friend to many.
He was an active member of the Upper Valley community having been assistant coach of women's tennis at Dartmouth for 18 years and in retirement, taught tennis in the Dartmouth Physical Education department. He was a member of St Thomas Episcopal Church, the Hanover Lions Club and a volunteer at the White River VA Hospital for many years where he made good friends who supported him until the end.
If you every shook his hand, held his hand or gave him a hug, you know he was always the last one to let go. He brightened so many lives with his warmth and love and will be missed, but always loved and remembered.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 29 at 2:00pm at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Hanover, NH.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
