Gertrude (Trudie) B. Nicholsona resident of Kendal at Hanover in Hanover, New Hampshire, died on November 22, 2021. She was 101 years old.
Trudie was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Andrew Ellicott Colson and Mildred Place Colson. She graduated from the Berkeley Institute, Brooklyn New York, Oberlin College, Oberlin Ohio, and did graduate work in Biblical Studies at Assumption College, Worcester Massachusetts.
She was trained as a primary school teacher and taught in Albany New York and Charlottesville Virginia and was an Art Slide Librarian at the Worcester Art Museum and Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Her major activities outside the home included volunteer church and church related positions and her particular interest was Bible Study.
She was former President of the United Church Women of Charlottesville Virginia, a board member of the Worcester Home for the Blind in Worcester Massachusetts, former President and honorary member of the Hall Club in Worcester Massachusetts. At Kendal, where she has lived since 1991, she volunteered in many areas of the Health Center, was active on various committees, sang in the Chorale, and did Hospice volunteer work.
Her husband and lifelong partner Howard Nicholson, her classmate at Oberlin College whom she married in 1942, died in 2019 after 77 years of marriage. She leaves her son, Howard Jr. and his wife Yvonne (Dawson) Nicholson of South Hadley, Massachusetts.
A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Norwich Vermont at a later date.
