Obituary

Grace Marie (Ucci) Carney 89, of Lebanon, NH passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on July 1, 2021 at Lebanon Center Health Care where she had resided since November 2019.

She was born in White Plains, NY on August 24,1931, daughter to Joseph and Marie (Angeletti) Ucci. She was a 1949 graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel in White Plains, NY. She then attended and graduated from The Washington School for Secretaries in New York City. Grace married James P. Carney on her 21st birthday in 1952. They lived in many places during their life: White Plains, NY; Kansas City, MO (twice); Long Island, NY; Longmeadow, MA; Utica, NY; and Miami,FL. Wherever they landed Grace made a happy and loving home for her family. She had a friendly manner and a gracious spirit. She was a devout Catholic and became involved in every parish where she resided. While in FL she was proud and honored to become a Eucharistic Minister.

Grace and Jim became miniature enthusiasts building and decorating a beautiful dollhouse together. They created many themed shadowboxes often building and making what they couldn't buy. Small Corners by The Carneys travelled to many shows and they enjoyed being on the circuit. That dollhouse was Grace's pride and joy throughout her life. She also enjoyed reading, going to movies, playing Scrabble, shopping and finding a bargain, cooking, baking, and entertaining family and friends. She watched her New England Patriots faithfully and Tom Brady was her special guy. Grace embarked on an adventure moving to Sanford, NC in 2009 to start a new life where the weather was warmer but returned within a year due to her health.

Grace was employed as a secretary at The Willie Ross School for the Deaf in Longmeadow, MA and as a rental agent while living in Miami, FL. After moving to the Upper Valley in 1989 she volunteered and substituted at the Dartmouth College Child Care Center rocking and reading to many little ones. She volunteered at the Howe Library. She was a communicant of St. Denis Church in Hanover where she worked in the office and served the parish in many different capacities. She was happiest when she was helping others, organizing, and making sure things ran smoothly. She was a perfectionist and it showed in everything she did, big and small.

Grace is survived by her daughter, Susan Phelps and her husband, Brian Phelps of Lanesborough, MA and his sons, Jared Phelps (Kimbrough) of Palmer, Alaska and Christopher Phelps (Jen) of Belchertown, MA and her son, Jeffrey Carney of Enfield, NH and his children, Ryan Carney and Jordan Carney and his wife, Heather Green and her son, Zach Green, her deceased son's daughter, Sara Uehling (Steve), two sisters, Carol Radick of West Lebanon, NH and Joanne Cerrato (Jack) of Suffield, CT, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James P. Carney, her son, Stephen J. Carney, and her two brothers, Michael Ucci and Fred Ucci. Grace will always be remembered as Amazing Grace by her family and she will be missed by many people who called her a friend.

Honoring Grace's wishes there will be no calling hours. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Denis Catholic Church, 8 Sanborn Rd, Hanover, NH on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 11:00. Burial will be private at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in White Plains, NY at a later time.
