Helen Marie
(Dinneen) Quinn
May 20, 2023
Helen Marie (Dinneen) Quinn, 90, of Hanover, NH passed away on May 20, 2023 after a period of declining health at the Hanover Terrace Nursing Home.
Helen was born on September 22, 1932 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Joseph Michael and Helen Monica (Cronin) Dinneen. Helen was raised in Lowell, Massachusetts. She developed a love of the ocean as a young child and fondly recalled her summers in North Hampton with her family. Her enduring love of the beach continued throughout her life and she shared that love with her own family. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1950 and continued her education in nursing at St. John Hospital School of Nursing. Helen then took a job at the Catherine Laboure School of Nursing in Boston. Her passion for nursing led her to leave her teaching job to take a new position at the St. John Hospital in Lowell, MA where she worked in OB and Surgery for several years.
Helen met her husband, William F. Quinn (Bill), through mutual friends. They were married on September 5, 1959 in Lowell, MA. In 1961 Helen reluctantly agreed to move to Hanover, NH when Bill took a job at the US Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory (CRREL). She told Bill that she would stay in Hanover for one year. When she arrived in Hanover she found her community among neighbors and families of the original CRREL. Helen and Bill found land on Rip Road and built the home they would share for 54 years. She considered her Rip Road neighbors to be her extended family. Part of her reconsideration of her commitment to Hanover for one year were the friendships she formed among her neighbors.
Helen and Bill had five children: Michael (Karen Lynch), of Newfields, NH, William (Maureen Packer), of Concord, NH, Kathleen of Wallkill, NY, Robert (Abby Rogers) of Concord, NH and Karen (Christopher Hood)of Burlington, VT . Helen was kept busy raising the children and transporting all five to their activities and sports. She was especially proud of her family's involvement with the Hanover Swim Team. She spent many weekends shuttling her own children, and other members of the team, all over New England for their competitions. When the youngest entered elementary school, Helen returned to nursing when she took a job at the Hanover Terrace Nursing Home. She was eventually named Assistant Director of Nursing at the facility. She continued to work there until her retirement in 1991.
Helen was a lover of animals. She always remembered the family dog she and her sister enjoyed as children. She shared her love of pets with her children. She always enjoyed having a dog in the house. After the loss of her last dog she took joy in following her grand dogs. She was a devout New England sports fan following the Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins through their highs and lows.
Helen is survived by her husband, Bill, of Hanover, her five children and ten grandchildren: Jack and Ellie Quinn, Ryan, Kevin, and Lexi Quinn, Alexander and Mark Fagouri, Samuel and Oliver Quinn, and Henry and Walter Hood. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Louise Kelley, of North Chelmsford, MA, her brother-in-law, Jack (Johanne) Quinn of Bristol, TN, and Vincent Gallucci, of Kennebunk, ME. She was predeceased by her grandson, Benjamin Quinn, her sister-in-law, Mary Gallucci, and brother-in-law, James Quinn.
Rand Wilson Funeral Home of School Street in Hanover is assisting the family with arrangements. A wake will take place at Rand Wilson on Thursday May 25th , 2023 from 6 to 7:30pm. A Mass and Christain Burial will take place at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 10am.
