Obituary

Helen A. (Dyevoich) Hinckpassed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on Saturday, February 10, 2018.

Helen was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 9, 1930, the daughter of John and Helen Dyevoich, who were immigrants from Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Helen was a graduate of Bishop McDonnell High School, in Brooklyn, and Hunter College in Manhattan. She went on to work as a teacher in the New York City Public School system, where she loved working with young children. On April 17, 1960, she married John H. Hinck, and they lived happily together on the shore of Long Island Sound in City Island, New York for the next 45 years. Along with John she helped supervise the restoration of their historic home, while also raising three children with great devotion, and caring faithfully for several aging relatives over the years.

Helen was very active in her local Catholic parish, St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, lector, cantor, catechist and Confirmation teacher. She loved music, played piano by ear, and organized a prayer group, sharing her musical gifts and prayers for healing with others. Later in life she continued her music ministry at Wheelock Terrace Assisted Living, where she seized every opportunity to play the piano for the staff and other residents.

She is survived by her three children: Christina Avery and her husband Don, Jack and his wife Frances, and Stephen and his wife Mary. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: James and his fiancee Elizabeth Hyde, Stephanie, Erica, Matthew, Stephen, Angela and Clara. Other survivors include her sister Nicolette Dyevoich Goga, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Helen's family would like to thank the staff of Lake Sunapee Visiting Nurse Association, Wheelock Terrace Assisted Living, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for their excellent care of her during her final years.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, February 23 at the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hanover, NH. A Requiem Mass will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 24 at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church in Hanover. Interment will follow at Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover.
