Janet A. Wilson, 68, died Thursday, March 9th at her home while surrounded by her family.
Born in Concord, NH on October 4, 1954 she was the daughter of the late Bradford and Sylvia (Jacobs) Alden. They lived in Hampton, NH and Dallas, PA for a time before the family settled in Lebanon, NH where she graduated from Lebanon High School in 1972 and then attended and graduated from Lasell University.
It was a chance encounter that she met the love of her life, John W. Wilson while he was home on leave from the Navy and the two were married on August 9, 1975. Janet's working career was spent at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital / Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, starting in the radiology department before becoming an Executive Assistant to multiple Presidents of the facility. One of those Presidents was Jim Varnum, who oversaw the move from Mary Hitchcock Hospital to Dartmouth Hitchcock facility, told the story to her son-in-law of how instrumental Janet was in the successful move, frequently working late into the night to help prepare and make sure everything transitioned smoothly. But in typical Janet fashion, she was very humble, never wanting to take the credit she earned and deserved for all her hard work. After many years at Dartmouth Hitchcock Janet retired in 2011 and began the next phase of her life, which she lived to the fullest. She and John traveled to Iowa to watch their son Brett compete in the National Special Olympics, made multiple trips to Florida to see their son Trevor as well as trips to Gatlinburg, TN and Hocking Hills, OH with all of her family. In 2007 she entered her most important and favorite role as "Nettie" to her grandchildren, first Ella, then Lily in 2010 and Aiden in 2020. She loved going to see Ella and Lily perform in school concerts and in sports and looked forward to Facetiming nightly with Aiden; it was the role she was born for.
For Janet, family was everything. She hosted Thanksgiving for her entire family every year and always looked forward to gatherings, playing the perfect hostess. The typical New Englander, she was also known for her dry sense of humor, quick comebacks and jokes, making people often have to consider was she being serious or joking around. She was a fan of chicken barbecues, Lawrence Welk, Jeopardy, a diehard New England sports fan and longtime member of both the P.E.O. and United Church of Christ at Dartmouth. She will be remembered for being dressed to the nines and always knowing the right thing to say.
Janet was predeceased by her parents Brad and Sylvia Alden, husband John, older sister Dianne Alden, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Dr. William Wilson and Beverly Wilson, uncle and aunt Dr. Forrest and Shirley Jacobs and her cousin Wayne Jacobs.
She is survived by her daughter Heather Prebish, her husband Mark and their daughters Ella and Lily of Windsor, VT; two sons, Brett Wilson of Lebanon, NH and Trevor Wilson, his wife Christina and their son Aiden of North Port, FL; her twin sister Judy LaRochelle and her husband Dave of Londonderry, NH; brother Peter Alden of West Boyleston, MA; five sister-in-laws; Donna McCague and her husband Sandy of Manchester, NH; Toni Walker and her husband Greg of Lebanon, NH; Lisa Wilson and her partner Maria Cook of Salem, MA; Kimberley Wilson of Gardner, MA and Jennifer Wilson of Newburyport, MA; a brother-in-law William Wilson of Gardner, MA, her cousin Glenn Jacobs and his wife Leslie of Tampa, FL and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be held in the Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover at a later date.
