Kathleen (Kate) Glynn Geurkinkpassed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011. Raised in Hamilton, Ohio, Kate lived and worked in women's health in the Hanover area for the past 30 years. She received her BS in Nursing from Marquette University in 1968 and her Nurse Practitioner Certificate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1980. She also worked for American Airlines as a Flight Attendant from 1971-1974. A published poet, Kate created and developed in 1999 the "Poetry Project" to enhance patient healing by writing at the Koop Institute & Women's Resource Center. It is still an ongoing project.
Kate was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. Nate Geurkink former Chair of the ENT Department at Mary Hitchcock Hospital. She is survived by her six siblings, Dr. Thomas Glynn (Kathleen) of Richmond, IN; Molly Abrams (Bob) of Purcellville, VA; Theresa Furtado (Bob) of Piedmont, CA; Peggy Jamison (Steve) of Oxford, OH; Michael Glynn (Thelma) of Durham, NC; and Terry (Maria) of Batavia, OH and fourteen beloved nieces and nephews as well as Nate's children, Jonathan Geurkink (Kaarina and children Xander and Sophia) of Seattle, WA; Lise Neer (Joe) of Denver, CO and Katrina Geurkink of Tacoma, WA.
A Memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH on Saturday, December 3 at 10:00 AM followed by a reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Renal Cancer Research Fund at Norris Cotton Cancer Center, mailed to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Development Office, Attention: M. Clark, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
