In Memory of Lewis Arthur Fogg

Lewis Arthur Fogg, a devoted husband, loving father, and seeker of knowledge and wisdom, was peacefully called home to Heaven on February 24, 2025. Embraced in the love of his Savior, Jesus Christ, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, perseverance, and faith. He is deeply mourned by his beloved wife, Vera Elizabeth Davidson Fogg, and their cherished sons, Theodore, Ian, and Norman.

Born on March 6, 1948, in the picturesque White Mountains of North Conway, New Hampshire, Lewis was the son of Arthur Lewis Fogg and Louise Wade Fogg. From an early age, he was instilled with a reverence for God, a love of learning, a strong work ethic, and a profound sense of family and devotion.

Lewis and Vera first knew each other as children in their hometown church, their friendship blossoming into love as young adults. They spent their courtship exploring the Maine coastline and hiking the White Mountains, sharing in the wonder of God's creation.

On the day of our Lord June 2, 1974, they exchanged vows at Saint Andrews of The Valley Church in Tamworth, New Hampshire, beginning a marriage built on faith, partnership, and love.

A man of many talents, Lewis worked alongside his father as a stonemason, played the French horn, sang in the church quire, and found solace in nature.

Graduating from Kennett High School, though he initially trained as a barber, his thirst for knowledge led him to higher education. The first in his family to graduate college, he earned an Associates degree in engineering and land surveying from Penn State University, and then received his Bachelors degree in special education from the University of Farmington, Maine. His passion for learning guided his career, and he found his calling at Dartmouth College as a cataloger of Semitic and Slavic languages. He believed deeply in the power of education to uplift society and took great pride in his work.

Lewis was a man of quiet strength, meeting life's challenges—including a childhood brain injury—with an admirable amount of courage, grace, and fortitude. He carried Proverbs 3:13 close to his heart: "Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding." These words defined his journey, inspiring him to always seek growth and to encourage others to do the same.

Above all, Lewis was a man of love and devotion, for his loving wife, for his family, for the beauty of the world, and for God. Together with Vera, he did his best to create a home filled with warmth, optimism,
and togetherness. In his final days, reflecting on the life they built, he spoke words that will remain in the hearts of those who knew him:

"There was a lot of that."

A lot of love. A lot of faith. A lot of beauty.

Lewis Arthur Fogg's life was a testament to the goodness of God watching over us, and the power of love. He will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
