Louis Sapira resident at Kendal of Hanover, formerly of Riverdale, NY, died peacefully at age 95 on March 14th with his daughters at his bedside.
Predeceased in 2014 by his wife Carolyn Kupferberg Sapir, he is survived by his loving family, including his two daughters, Margaret Sapir of Wilton, CT, and Joan Sapir of Newton, MA, and two sons-in-law. He is also survived by four devoted grandchildren, Carel Sapir Ristuccia and Molly Sapir Ristuccia of Newton, Matthew Sapir Ristuccia of Sherborn, MA, and Jared Sapir Rapoport of Stamford, CT, and by three great-grandchildren.
A graduate of DeWitt Clinton High School, CCNY and Columbia University (MA, Economics), Mr. Sapir was a securities analyst, until recently as First VP of Oppenheimer & Co in NY. He served as Chair, NY Society for Ethical Culture, and as board member of the Ethical Culture Fieldston School, Riverdale-Yonkers Society for Ethical Culture, Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Riverdale Mental Health Association, and Weis Ecology Center. He was also an Adjunct Professor at Manhattan College School of Business, and recently served on the Finance and Investment Committees at Kendal, where he and Carolyn resided since 2001.
Mr. Sapir's commitment to service was evidenced through his leadership roles in numerous philanthropic and educational institutions. His breadth of knowledge and zest for life are demonstrated through his interest in nature, philosophy, ethics, economics, art, and his love of boating, fishing, tennis, travel, and food. Lou's admiring friends appreciated his humor, wisdom, and generous spirit.
In keeping with Lou and Carolyn's devotion to children and education, contributions in his honor may be made to The Elinor M. Ristuccia Fund, Massachusetts Advocates for Children, 25 Kingston St., 2nd Floor, Boston,"€Ž MA"€Ž 02111.
The funeral will be private but the family welcomes stories and reminiscences which can be shared on this site or sent to [email protected].
