Louise (Roik)
Kremzner
December 26, 2014
Louise (Roik) Kremzner81, died December 26, 2014. She was born in 1933 in the Jersey Shore town of Ventnor City, NJ. She grew up there and attended Atlantic City High School, graduating in 1951. Louise attended Hood College in Frederick, Maryland for two years and then transferred to and graduated from Douglass College (Rutgers University) with a BS in Nutrition and Institutional Administration. She did post-graduate study at Columbia University's Institute of Human Nutrition.
Louise started her career as a dietitian at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ and then became a food publicist for Nabisco in New York City. She married Leon Kremzner in 1956 and together they raised three children, Mark, Madeleine and Stuart, living in the New Jersey communities of Upper Saddle River, Pennington, Washington's Crossing, Ho-Ho-Kus and then Chester, before moving to their beloved Canaan, New Hampshire in 1983. Louise and Lee owned and operated the Inn on Canaan Street for many years, which was selected by Yankee Magazine as one of the best places to stay in New England in 1995 – 96.
Louise was an active volunteer, especially in the areas of education and health care. Louise held positions as president of the Branch and State sections of the American Association of University Women in New Jersey; chairman of the Morris County (NJ) Nutritional Council for nutrition education; member of the School Board in Chester, NJ; Library Trustee for the Canaan, NH Town Library; Chair of the Alice Peck Day Board of Directors and she was on the Board of Directors for Hannah House. Louise was also a member of the Canaan Bird and Garden Group and was longtime member of P.E.O.
More than anything, Louise loved to open her home to friends, family and others to celebrate holidays and special occasions with an abundance of food and good cheer. She was a wonderful cook and hostess, and was perfectly suited to being an innkeeper. Louise loved Canaan but always held a special place in her heart for Ventnor, NJ.
Louise was pre-deceased by her husband, Leon, in 2000 and by her brother Theodor Roik of Ocean City, NJ, in 2013. Survivors include a son, Mark Kremzner, a daughter, Madeleine (Olsen) Kremzner of East Thetford, VT, and son, Stuart Kremzner of Bow, NH and four grandchildren.
A service will be held in the spring of 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Louise's memory to Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital or David's House in Lebanon, NH.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
