Obituary

Margaret "Peg" Councilof Brookfield, Vermont, passed away on April 3, 2015 at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, with two of her sons by her side. She was 85.

Peg was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She met and married William Council (Sr.) in the mid-1950's and they had three boys together. Wanting to raise her kids in a rural area led them to move to Exton, PA in the mid 1960's. As the boys grew older Peg took an interest in geneology, tracing her family roots to northern New England, Lyme NH and Brookfield VT in particular.

Her husband died suddenly in 1983 and shortly after Peg moved to Lyme. In the meantime, the eldest son Bill Jr. had purchased a parcel of land on East Hill, Brookfield, that was later found to have been owned by one of the family's ancestors. A cemetery just up the road is the gravesite of a relative who fought in the Revolutionary War. Through a series of misfortunes, Peg ended up living in a house that Bill Jr. had built in Brookfield when Bill got married and moved to Danville, Vermont in the early 1990's.

Peg had a love of wildflowers and cooking, and she particularly enjoyed cultivating New England asters whose blooms in late summer surround her house. She mastered making some of the best popovers east of the Mississippi in her small kitchen.

In the year prior to her death Peg lost her two animal companions, 'Danny', her Golden Retriever, and 'Phoebe', her Maine coon cat. It's hoped that there has been a joyous reunion with them with her passing.

Peg is survived by her sons, Bill Jr. of Brookfield, Paul and his partner Claudia Bagiackas of East Calais, and Mark of Fairlee.

There will be no service in her honor.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
