Margaret A. "Peggy" Simondied Saturday, January 29, 2011 of complications from lung cancer. She was 87 years old. She was a resident of Erie, PA for almost 80 years before living in both North Ft. Myers, FL and West Lebanon, NH until she died.
Peggy was born in 1924 in Erie, PA, daughter of Edwin and Camille Bunny. She graduated from Lawrence Park High School and worked for General Electric for a number of years. While working at General Electric she met her future husband, Carl F. Simon, Jr. to whom she was married for 55 years before his death in 2004.
Predeceased by her brother Edwin Bunny of Indianapolis, IN, Peggy is survived by her sister Jeanne McGraw of Erie, PA and by her children Christine Grover of Albuquerque, NM; Robert Simon and wife Deborah of Flemington, NJ; Thomas Simon and wife Maria of Weare, NH; and Laurie Sabatelle and husband Rob of Norwich, VT. Peggy is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Eric and Meredith Simon, Amy and Stephanie Simon, and Robbie, Courtney and Mary Sabatelle.
Peggy was an active member of her church, first at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Lawrence Park, then at Mount Calvary Church in Erie and finally at St. Therese Church in North Ft. Myers.
While Peggy enjoyed participating in a variety of sports in school she was a lifelong and accomplished golfer. She and her husband were long-time members of Lawrence Park Golf Club in Erie where Peggy competed in many club championships, interclub matches and Erie City Championships. In addition to being an accomplished golfer, Peggy was also an accomplished bridge player. She played the game for more than 50 years right up until her death and achieved the designation of Master based on her achievements in competitions.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 11am at the St. Denis Catholic Church in Hanover, NH. Interment will be in Erie, PA at a date to be scheduled later this year.
