Marge Smithpassed away due to Alzheimer's on Sunday, September 29, 2019.
Born at home in Richmond, VA on February 4, 1926 to Helen (Romig) and Clayton Wroth Wright, she was subsequently raised in Baltimore. Intending to become a nurse in the Women's Army Corps, she earned her RN at West Baltimore General Hospital, but never served due to the end of the war.
She returned to college in the 70's and earned her BA from New England College in 1978. A devout Catholic, she was a life-long parishioner at St. Denis.
She had a long career as a nurse, spending many years at Dick's House caring for members of the Dartmouth College family, and serving on South Strafford's Fast Squad. Community-minded, she was an enthusiastic volunteer at Howe Library, the Pink Smock at DHMC, and in the Ford Sayre program. An avid tennis player and teacher in the summer, wintertime found her skiing downhill or cross-country – always nattily attired.
She will be fondly remembered for her unique fashion sense, her weekly coiffure by John Desrochers, her love of anything with bling, and her bright pink nails. She had a big heart and even bigger hair.
Marge was predeceased by her two sisters, Helen Elizabeth (Betty) and Mary Ann (Mary), as well as her three husbands - Donald Andrésen, Herman Redden, and Justin Smith, whom she loved dearly. She is survived by two children, Karen Andrésen (David Williams) of Montpelier, VT, and Christian Andrésen (Dot Helling) of Adamant, VT; four grandchildren – Larissa (Jos Thalheimer) and Talia Williams (Ashley Sutton), and Kyle and Colby Anderson Andrésen; and five great-grandchildren – Ivy Thalheimer and Jaxon, Lennox, Knox, and Nixon Sutton-Williams. She also leaves behind 11 step-children - Phillip and Robert Redden, Jack, Michael, Tom, and Dan Fitzgerald, Mary Prentice, Susan and John Moore, Meredith Kobzik, Diana Moore-Means, and their families.
Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5 at 1 pm at St. Denis in Hanover with a private burial at another time. Her family intends to honor her by wearing something pink and/or sparkly.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Rte 10, Enfield, NH 03748.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, N.H.
