Nancy Mayo Waterman89, passed away on Saturday, September 14th at the Country Village in Lancaster, NH. Nancy was born in Boston, MA on June 27, 1924 to William Randall Waterman and Ellen (Magoon) Waterman.
Nancy grew up in Hanover, NH where her father was a professor of history at Dartmouth College. She attended local schools and graduated from Mount Holyoke College. She received her master's degree in library science at Clark University.
Nancy became a librarian at the New York Public Library and lived there most of her life. Coming back to Hanover for a brief time she was a librarian at the Baker Library at Dartmouth College, then returned to her former position in New York.
She loved New York and all it had to offer, enjoying Broadway plays, musicals, ballet, the symphony and the many museums. She was also interested and fond of Eskimo and Japanese art. Nancy was a member of the Riverside Church in New York. She was a member of the Tower League and the Business and Professional Women's Organization and was very active in both groups for many years.
In her younger days she bicycled through several European countries and was vacationing in London at the time of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Prior to coming to Country Village in Lancaster, she resided at the Atria in New York City.
She is survived by cousins, Jean Magoon Hubbard and husband Wade of Lancaster, NH, Scott A. Magoon and wife, Susan of Waltham, MA and Lancaster, NH and many more cousins and their children who were Nancy's family.
Nancy also leaves a most devoted friend, John Mattson, who aided her in the many difficult phases of aging. The family will forever be grateful to him for the care and support he provided.
She was predeceased by her parents, an uncle, Mayo M. Magoon and wife Katherine, an aunt, Ethel C. Magoon, cousins, Bruce A. Magoon, Thomas M. Magoon and Thomas W. Hubbard; also her father's relatives from Providence, RI.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 2:30 PM in the Chapel at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College, Hanover, NH with the Rev. Carla Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at the Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover, NH.
Donations in her memory may be made to Northwoods Hospice, 278 Main Street, Lancaster, NH 03584.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
