Paul Brendel Doraindied on July 19th at Kendal in Hanover, NH where he had lived for the past 12 years. He was 87 years old.
Paul grew up in New Haven, CT and attended Loomis School, graduating in 1944. He then served two years in the Navy. He graduated in 1950 from Yale University where he studied Chemistry and in 1954 he received a Ph.D. from Indiana University.
After doing post doctoral work at the University of Chicago, he worked as a Professor of Chemistry at Brandeis University from 1958-1981. He was Dean of Faculty at Colby College (1981-1982), a research scientist at Yale (1982-1985) and a Professor at Amherst College (1985-1991). He is the author of numerous papers and the book "Symmetry in Inorganic Chemistry."
Paul loved sailboat racing on Quannapowitt Lake in Wakefield, MA with his family and "working" at his farm in Acworth, NH.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Melanie and Rich Green, his son and daughter-in-law Doug and Ruth Dorain, his grandchildren Kirby Grochal and her husband Andrew Grochal, Kevin Green, Connor Green, Stephanie Dorain, Mitchell Dorain, Christopher Dorain and Nicholas Dorain. Also surviving are his sister Harriet Strout, brother Alfred Dorain, aunt Barbara LeFebre, many nieces and nephews and his former wife Elsie Dorain.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 27th, 11AM at Kendal at Hanover, 80 Lyme Road, Hanover, NH.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
