Obituary

Richard Allen Folt62, died peacefully at home in Hanover with his family following a courageous battle with cancer on 23 February. Rick grew up in Akron Ohio, graduated from the Ohio State University and lived in New York and Los Angeles, before moving to the Upper Valley in 1985.

He lived his life with humor, curiosity, generosity, and conviction. He was a bartender and waiter in several restaurants in the Upper Valley, including the last 11 years at ZINS at the Hanover Inn. He loved to trade jokes and carry on lively discussions with everyone who came in about any subject from sports, to politics, to philosophy, to natural history. An avid fisherman and hunter, Rick loved the outdoors and knew the woods and streams of the region like his own backyard. Many Upper Valley residents and regular visitors to the area know Rick, and will remember with a smile just how loyal Rick was to the Ohio teams that he continued to follow to his last days.

In his quarter century in this area, Rick put down deep roots. He lived for 20 years on the same property with his sister Carol Folt, brother-in-law David Peart, nephew Noah and niece Tessa.

In addition to his Hanover family, his family includes a sister Lee Vucovich of Birmingham, AL, brother, Robert Folt of Akron, Ohio, a pre-ceased brother Dan Folt of Wilmington, DE, and 9 other nieces and nephews. He enriched the lives of his family and friends immeasurably. We will miss him deeply.

Calling hours will be held from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the Rand-Wilson Funeral home in Hanover, NH, on Tuesday, February 28.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances could be given to the Hanover Conservancy (www.hanoverconservancy.org) or to the VNA Hospice (www.vnavnh.org).
