Robert Charles Baldwin95, of Lebanon, NH, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. The son of Howard Charles and Ruth Jensen Baldwin of Detroit, MI, he attended Detroit schools and graduated from Colgate University in 1942.
He served in the US Navy from 1942-1946 as Executive Officer of LST 244, where he engaged in major battles of the Pacific Theater including Tarawa, Eniwetok, Saipan, Leyte and Guam. Following the war, he graduated in 1949 from Harvard Business School.
In 1950 he married Jane Harvey of Wellesley Hills, MA, and moved to New Canaan, CT, where he spent most of his life in the automobile business as the owner of several car dealerships as well as co-owner of the Hotel Belmont, West Harwich, MA.
He worked hard for the Republican Party and often assisted his minister in outreach to members of the congregation, because helping others was his greatest joy in life. In 1986 the family moved to Hanover, a place he loved "€" and especially the friends with whom he played golf. Eventually, he moved with his wife to the Woodlands in Lebanon.
Robert was predeceased by his daughter Nancy and leaves behind his wife of 66 years and four children, Robert H. Baldwin of Doylestown, PA; Sarah Baldwin of Grantham, NH; William T. Baldwin of Edgartown, MA; David J. Baldwin of Falmouth, MA; two grandchildren, Andrew T. Baldwin of Los Angeles, CA; Jennifer Baldwin Rettenmyer of Redmond, WA, and three great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a private celebration of his life on the date of their 66th wedding anniversary.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
