Robert Charles Chambers, 85, recently passed away suddenly at his home in Cookeville, VT.
He was born in Detroit, MI to John Lawrence Chambers and Margaret Hurd Chambers (Prettie). He grew up in Detroit and graduated from the University of Michigan, earning both a B.S. and an M.S. in mechanical engineering. He worked at Continental Aviation and Engineering (later Teledyne) for many years. In 1978, Robert decided to pursue his longtime dream to do woodworking. He, his wife, and their three young children moved to Vermont. He taught engineering at VT Technical College in Randolph, then later worked at Norwich University in Northfield for the last part of his career. After retirement, he enjoyed working in his woodworking shop in the one-room former schoolhouse on his property, making, among other things, traditional Windsor chairs and a custom-designed sailboat. He was a talented craftsman, painter, and woodworker. He was also a fan of jazz music and loudspeaker design.
He is survived by his daughter Margaret Chambers of Collierville, TN, and his step-daughter Leslie Torres and family of Tucson, AZ. He was pre-deceased by his parents and a young son, Robert C. Chambers Jr. (Robbie). There will be a private burial service, arrangements by Rand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hanover, NH.
