Roberta Ruth MacDonnell92, died on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at Valley Terrace in Norwich, Vermont where she had been living since 2012. She was born in Chelsea, Mass. on December 16, 1922, the daughter of Robert and Ruth (Coyne) MacDonald.
Roberta attended school in Boston and worked for the Danish Consul in Washington, D.C. during World War II while her husband served in the Naval Air Corps. They moved to the Upper Valley in the late 1940's making their home in Hartford before moving to Norwich.
Along with being a licensed Real Estate Broker, she was active in the Norwich Women's Club, taught skiing for the Ford Sayre Ski Program, and volunteered for many community activities and civic organizations. She loved to garden, loved animals, was an avid Red Sox fan, and traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean, especially the British Virgin Islands, with her husband, daughter, and son-in-law.
Roberta was predeceased by her husband, Robert Bruce MacDonnell in 1989, by her brother-in-law Paul Allan MacDonnell of Yarmouth, Maine in 2012, and by her brother Charles Smith in 1971. She is survived by her daughter Paige Allyn Kelly, her son-in-law, Earle (Casey) W. Kelly of Rio Grande, Puerto Rico; four sister-in-laws, Gloria Mac Donnell of Yarmouth, Maine, Martha Welch of Dedham, Mass, Patrina Quinn of Hingham, Mass and Mary Smith of Cohasset, Mass; two brother-in-laws, Thomas Welch of Dedham, Mass., and John Quinn of Hingham, Mass. and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial gathering will be scheduled in the spring. Donations, in her memory, may be made to the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Rte 10, Enfield, NH 03748.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
