Sandra Barnes Gillespiedied with family by her side on November 3, 2019 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a short illness.

Born April 2, 1939 in Chicago, IL to Clarice (Hamill) and Nelson L. Barnes she was raised in Lake Forest, IL. and attended Bradford College. She relocated recently to the Upper Valley after living nearly twenty years in Boothbay Harbor, ME and before that in Hanover, NH and Scarsdale, NY.

Sandy was predeceased by her husband John Lodge Gillespie and brother Nelson "Chip" Barnes.

Sandy found great joy in her spectacular gardens, cooking, everything Christmas and her family. She was a past president of the Hanover Garden Club, member of the Boothbay Harbor Garden Club and avid volunteer at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor.

She is survived by her children Laura Gillespie of Lebanon, NH and Lodge Gillespie of Bethesda, MD, her three grandsons Ethan Demarest, Jack and Lucas Gillespie, niece Jennifer Barnes and daughter-in-law Anne Rubin. There will be a private service for the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
