Scott G. Smedinghoffage 28, of Lebanon, NH, passed away on January 13, 2016. Scott earned his B.A. in mathematics and physics at Williams College in 2009 and was quite active with the Williams music department. After receiving his degree he served as music director for two churches in Bennington, VT.
In 2012, Scott began graduate work in mathematics at Dartmouth College and was a fourth year doctoral candidate at the time of his death. During his time at Dartmouth, Scott served as organist at the Lyme, NH Congregational Church and later as the organist and choir director at the First Congregational Church in Thetford, VT. He was also frequently heard on the Dartmouth campus, most notably with the Dartmouth Chamber Wind Ensemble.
Scott was the cherished son of Linda (nee Hoffmann) and James Smedinghoff; brother of Sam; nephew of Thomas (Mary Beth), John (Patrice), Paul (Anne Kavooras), Rita (Frank) Carter, Lois (Dan) Bucaro, Gerard, Carl, Arnold (Jane) Hoffmann, and Diane Kuhnen; cousin of Mark (Lindsay Martin), the late Anne, Regina, Joan, Beth, Luke, Tony Carter, Connie Carter, John Carter, Sarah Bucaro, Andrea (Joe) Timler, Nicole Bucaro, and Emily Hoffmann.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 22 from 2pm to 4pm and from 6pm to 8pm at Rand Wilson Funeral Home, 11 1/2 School Street, Hanover, NH. Funeral will be held Saturday, January 23 at 11am in Rollins Chapel, Hanover, NH.
In lieu of flowers, a donation would be appreciated. We are exploring ideas with the Dartmouth music department to honor Scott. More information will be forthcoming.
Donations to the First Congregational Church in Thetford P.O. Box 69, Thetford, VT 05074 and the Lyme Congregational Church 1 Dorchester Road, Lyme, NH 03768 are also appreciated.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
