Obituary

Sheryl Rubin Lernerdied at home in White River Junction, Vermont, at the age of 72 after a long illness. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut, the daughter of Frank Rubin and Sarah (Govrin) Rubin. After moving to Orange, Connecticut, as a teenager, she graduated from Amity High School and in 1969 earned a bachelor's degree in education from Wheelock College in Boston. While teaching at Peck Place School in Orange she earned a master's degree from Fairfield University.

In June 1980 she married Fred Lerner and moved to the Upper Valley, where they soon established themselves in White River Junction. She taught for twenty-six years in the Lebanon School district, primarily at the School Street School. After her retirement in 2007 she devoted much of her time to community service, and worked on the Five Colleges Book Sale and the Disaster Relief Quilting Project at the Lutheran Church in Hanover. She was an active member of the Upper Valley Jewish Community.

Sheryl had a passion for travel, and before her marriage made several trips to Europe. With Fred she wandered along the back roads of Vermont, explored many of America's national parks (and a couple in Canada), and visited countries in Europe, Asia, and Central America. She had a particular fondness for historic buildings and vibrant cities. Her wide-ranging interests led her to many a Dartmouth lecture and to museums in every city she visited.

She is survived by her husband Fred, her daughter Elizabeth, her daughter-in-law Chasiah, and her brother David.

She is buried in the Upper Valley Jewish Community's cemetery in Lebanon.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
