Obituary

Vincent Piccolo 91, died Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Kendal at Hanover. He was born March 21, 1925 in Somerville, Massachusetts to Raffaele and Annie (Polito) Piccolo. He graduated from Somerville High School in 1943, and served in the Army Air Force from 1943 to 1946. He received a bachelor's degree from Tufts University in 1950, a Master of Library Science from Simmons College in 1951, and a Master of Education from Boston University in 1974.

In 1948 he met Joan Lord at Tufts, and they married at Claremont, NH in 1952. They had one son, Stephen Vincent Piccolo of Milan, Italy, and one daughter, Cecilia Piccolo Tittemore of West Lebanon, NH.

Vincent was a librarian and professor, and worked at the Department of State, Rutgers University, Providence Public Library and Worcester State College. At Worcester State he transitioned from librarianship to teaching, specializing in library science, history of communications technology, and history of photography. He derived much pleasure from his work.

In retirement, he lived in Brookline, Concord, Acton, and Lexington, Mass., before moving to Hanover in 2005.

Vincent is survived by his wife, Joan Piccolo, his son Stephen (partner Oxana Maleeva) and daughter Cecilia (partner Mark Mounts), one grandson Gregory Piccolo of Milan, Italy, two nieces and two nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother James Piccolo and sister Conchetta Ferzoco, both of Medford, Mass. He enjoyed many friendships with Kendal residents.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff at Kendal who provided such compassionate care. His life was enriched by their work. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Cadbury Fund at Kendal at Hanover.

A memorial gathering will be planned at a later date.
