Obituary

Virginia (Clark) Hobbs passed away peacefully, March 18, 2023 at her daughter's home in Wilder, Vermont, at the age of 97. She was surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was born April 4, 1925, in Franklin, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Clinton Stearns and Dora (Woodward) Clark.

She graduated from high school in 1943. She attended Simmons College for a year, then began training at New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Boston to be an RN. Following her graduation, she worked there for just over a year.

She married the late Chester Walker Hobbs of Franklin on Aug. 29, 1947. They continued to live in Boston for a year before moving back to Franklin, Mass. She returned to work as an RN at Framingham Hospital (MetroWest) in 1964. After a year of floor nursing, she was promoted to weekend Nursing Supervisor. She retired from nursing in 1990.

She and her family spent time each summer on Cape Cod, and she was planning to go this coming summer. She enjoyed birdwatching and travelled to Europe several times in addition to birding throughout the US. She reached 600 American Birds out of 900. She moved to Vermont to live life with her daughter in 2017.

She was a member of the Franklin Federated Church where she was a member of the Warm Puppies Group. She was also a member of the Alden Club and the Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Norfolk.

Virginia leaves behind her three children, Judith Hobbs of White River Junction, VT, Nancy (Hobbs) Stanhope and her husband Robert of Hanover, NH, and her son David Clark Hobbs and his wife Cheryl of Franklin, MA. She was the sister of the late Kenneth Clark of Norwood, MA.

She also leaves behind her three grandchildren, David Stanhope and his wife Doris of Haverhill, NH, Kristine Hobbs Desmarais and her husband Brian of Franklin, MA, and Jennifer Hobbs Spiess and her husband Ryan of Medway, MA. Virginia has four great-grandchildren, Kylie and Kendall Desmarais and Fletcher and Mckenna Spiess.

There will be calling hours on Saturday afternoon on March 25, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 at Rand Wilson Funeral Home in Hanover, NH. There will also be a service at Ginley Funeral Home at 131 Main Street in Franklin, MA. There will be a private committal service at the Union Street Cemetery.
