Virginia Quay
Hutchison
April 20, 2017
Virginia Quay Hutchisonpassed away peacefully and in the presence of loving family on April 20, 2017 in Hanover, New Hampshire. She was 88 and by her own account, had lived a long, full and happy life.
Born on April 19, 1929, Ginny spent nine years in Cairo, Egypt before moving to Orange, N.J. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1951 and married William Robert Hutchison in 1952. The couple's first year of married life was spent in Oxford, England; after returning to the States, Bill and Ginny and their growing family moved often, until finally settling in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1974.
Ginny always embraced life fully, whether as a spouse, a mother, a friend or an educator in the field of special education. She and Bill traveled extensively with their family and in later years as a couple, including many academically-related trips to far-flung places. Ginny was also an avid (and skilled) tennis player, a lover of hiking and the outdoors, and an inveterate craftswoman. Nothing pleased her more than spending time with family and friends, creating crafts projects for her grandkids, and beating anyone who dared take her on at double solitaire or Russian Bank.
Ginny lost her life partner Bill in December 2005. After five more years in Cambridge Ginny moved Kendal at Hanover where – true to form - she quickly became part of a large and loving community.
Ginny will be deeply missed by her four children and their families: Joe Hutchison, Jo Baird, Shailah, Eli, and Sam of Richmond, VA; Cathy and Larry Winnie, Matt, Lidya and Samerawit of Dallas, TX; Margy Hutchison and Hali Hammer, Prairie and Isaiah of Berkeley, CA; and Elizabeth Quay Hutchison and Regina Manocchio, Dante and Pasqual of Albuquerque, NM.
Friends and family will gather at Kendal at Hanover for a memorial service in celebration of Ginny's life on Saturday, August 12th from 2-4pm. The service will be followed by a reception. To share memories or condolences, write to Elizabeth Hutchison, 327 Fontana Place NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
Donations in Ginny's memory may be sent to Friends Meeting at Cambridge at 5 Longfellow Park, Cambridge MA 02138, or through the website http://fmcquaker.org/donations/.
