William
Moyer
April 26, 1945 – June 2, 2026
William “Bill” Moyer, beloved father, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, at the age of 81, after living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years.
Born on April 26, 1945 in Jamestown, New York, Bill was the son of George and Virginia (Myles) Moyer. He was the beloved brother of Jon Moyer, who predeceased him, and George (“Joey”) Moyer. Throughout his life, Bill called many places home. He and his former wife Cheryl raised their daughters, Stephanie and Jennifer, in Buffalo and Rochester before settling in Chatham, New Jersey. Bill’s career then led him to Boston before his eventual retirement in Naples, Florida. While Bill had a genuine fondness for each and every place he lived, his nostalgia for his beloved hometown of Jamestown, New York and its beautiful Chautauqua Lake was unrivaled.
Bill earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Miami University in 1967 and went on to receive his MBA from Canisius College in 1972 before embarking on his financial services career at Harold C. Brown in Buffalo, New York. Bill held leadership positions at Merrill Lynch and Dean Witter Reynolds before joining Investment Technology Group (ITG) in 1990, where he worked until his retirement in 2008. Bill considered his career at ITG a highlight of his life, as the relationships forged during that time became friendships that would last his lifetime.
Known affectionately by colleagues as “OG” (the “Old Goat”), Bill was respected for his sharp intellect, deep understanding of markets and economics, and generous mentorship. His friends and family cherished his exuberant personality and mischievous sense of humor. While Bill was passionate about golf, sports, history, classic films, fine wine and good cigars, these pastimes were simply the vehicles for his greatest passion, which was spending time with friends and family. That his wit and loyalty as a friend were highly valued was perhaps best demonstrated by the forgiveness he received from his New York area friends when he committed the ultimate sin: moving to Boston and becoming an ardent Boston sports fan. Bill loved his daughters deeply and was proud of the lives they built for themselves. Though their hearts are heavy, they are thankful for the time they had with him and for the myriad ways he enriched their lives.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Moyer (Wesley Chapel, Florida), and Jennifer Moyer (Norwich, Vermont); his brother, George, and sister-in-law, Nancy (Honolulu, Hawaii); his four beloved grandchildren, Nick Lacopo, Kate Bartlett, Will Bartlett, and Jane Bartlett; his former son-in-law, David Bartlett, who remained a cherished member of his family; and countless friends who became family over the years.
The family plans to hold a virtual memorial service in the coming weeks and will share details once arrangements have been finalized.
Bill’s daughters are particularly grateful to the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, New Hampshire, where Bill’s final days were comfortable and dignified. Those wishing to honor Bill’s memory may consider a donation to the Jack Byrne Center.
