Obituary

Windsor Harral Hunter87, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at Kendal in Hanover, NH. He was born on November 5, 1929 in Lake Forest, IL to Mildred (Harral) and Frederick Lincoln Hunter. He graduated from Lake Forest High School where he played football, water polo and track and became an Eagle Scout.

Win studied electrical engineering and business at MIT, graduating in 1951 with a BS degree.

After three years at Raytheon developing military vacuum tubes, he joined Transitron, a start up in the new field of semiconductors, where he eventually became a division manager. In 1968, he co-founded a company to manufacture custom backplane connector systems. The company was soon acquired by Teradyne where he spent the next 25 years managing the division which was based in Nashua, NH. When he retired in 1993, the company was the leading producer of these systems with facilities worldwide. The company is now the TCS Division of Amphenol.

Win married Marilyn Fitzgerald in December 1950, and they lived in the Boston area where they raised their five children. Upon retirement, they moved to Hanover where they could enjoy gardening, golf, kayaking, skiing, and biking. They loved hiking the mountains of New Hampshire, summiting all the 4,000 footers. Their shared love of travel led them to adventures all over the world, hiking on six continents, including two trips to Nepal, their favorite place on earth. Win was active in the local photography club. His beautiful photographs of their world travels grace their home. Win was also active as an angel investor in regional start-ups, sharing his business acumen and technical judgment with the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Win is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 66 years; brother, Emory Hunter, Fairfield, CA; sons David and wife Ellen, Brad and wife Mary, Lexington, MA, Kevin and wife Jacqueline, Milford, NH, and Greg and wife Robyn, Dover, MA; daughter Judith Schwarz, Brownsville, VT, as well as twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Win's wish was to not have a service at Kendal, but to have his family get together at a later date to celebrate his life.

Contributions in his memory may be sent to the Windsor and Marilyn Hunter Endowment for School Partners at the Montshire Museum to support the Museum's science program outreach to rural schools in NH and VT. (Montshire Museum, 1 Montshire Road, Norwich, VT 05055)

Arrangements are under the direction of the Rand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hanover, NH.
